Why we love it
It charges about once a month. Withings rates it at up to 35 days, and Wired's tester reached 22 days before charging.
It looks like a watch, not a gadget. Withings lists a stainless steel case and sapphire crystal glass, and Digital Trends called it classy, comfortable and well made.
Its heart rhythm checks have a record. In a 2022 study of 262 patients, the original ScanWatch detected AF with 96.3% sensitivity and 100% specificity against a 12-lead ECG.

Questions
How long does the Withings ScanWatch 2 battery last?
Up to 35 days per charge, per Withings. Wired's tester reached 22 days before charging. That is well beyond WHOOP's 14 days and Oura Ring 5's 6 to 9 days.
Does the Withings ScanWatch 2 need a subscription?
No. Core tracking works without one. Withings+ is optional at $9.95 a month or $99.50 a year after a 1-month trial, per Withings. Wired, which rated the watch 7 out of 10, was not won over by the optional subscription.
Is the Withings ScanWatch 2 good for sleep tracking?
It is not its strength. Against polysomnography, the original ScanWatch had fair sleep stage agreement and a 60.94-minute total sleep time error, the largest of six devices. Tom's Guide found ScanWatch 2 bulky in bed, though Digital Trends found its sleep scores usually close to an Oura ring.
Is the Withings ScanWatch 2 a medical device?
In the EU, yes. Withings declares ScanWatch 2 (model HWA10) a Class IIa medical device under EU MDR 2017/745. In the US, we found no FDA clearance that names ScanWatch 2 itself.
