What Withings makes, and why we feature it
Withings makes connected scales, hybrid watches and at-home health devices designed to look like objects rather than gadgets. We feature the Body Scan, a scale with a handle that measures weight, segmental body composition and an ECG ($499.95 list), and the ScanWatch 2, a hybrid watch with analog hands, a small display and up to 35 days of battery ($369.95 list), per Withings.
It earns its place on regulatory record and reviews. FDA cleared Scan Monitor 2.0, the Body Scan's ECG function, under 510(k) K230812, and Withings declares ScanWatch 2 a Class IIa medical device under EU MDR 2017/745. Tom's Guide, TechRadar and T3 each rated the Body Scan 4 out of 5.
Neither device needs a subscription; Withings+ is optional at $9.95 a month. The weak spots are documented too: the Body Scan's body fat figures rest on Withings' own DEXA comparison, and the original ScanWatch had the largest total sleep time error of six devices in a sleep lab comparison.
The proof
- FDA cleared Withings Scan Monitor 2.0, the ECG function of Body Scan, under 510(k) K230812 on August 23, 2023. Source
- FDA cleared the Withings ECG App under 510(k) K240795 on June 15, 2025, as over-the-counter ECG software; the clearance does not name ScanWatch 2. Source
- Withings declares ScanWatch 2 (model HWA10) a Class IIa medical device under EU MDR 2017/745, assessed by notified body 1282. Source
- A Withings-funded, peer-reviewed 2023 study of 147 patients found Body Scan's foot skin conductance matched a hospital nerve-test device with 0.91 sensitivity and 0.97 specificity. Source
- A 2022 JMIR Formative Research study of the original ScanWatch, the predecessor to ScanWatch 2, in 262 patients reported 96.3% AF sensitivity and 100% specificity against a 12-lead ECG. Source

Questions
Is Withings legit?
Yes. Withings holds FDA 510(k) clearances for the Body Scan's ECG function (K230812) and its ECG App (K240795). Its recall record is short: FDA lists a 2022 Class 2 recall of 38,886 original ScanWatch units over an ECG activation software bug, and openFDA shows one 2018 blood pressure monitor recall. FDA's warning letter index returned none.
What is the best Withings product?
It depends on what you track. The Body Scan suits body composition tracking, with segmental readings and an FDA-cleared ECG; Amazon owners rate it 4.1 from 8,977. The ScanWatch 2 suits people who want an analog watch that charges about once a month; Wired's tester reached 22 days. Neither needs Withings+.
What is Withings' return policy?
Products bought on withings.com can be returned for a refund within 30 days, and US customers start the return through their Withings account. Withings webstore products also carry a 2-year warranty from the date of delivery, longer than the 1-year terms several other device brands in this guide offer.
Does Withings need a subscription?
No. Core tracking works without one on both the Body Scan and ScanWatch 2. Withings+ is optional at $9.95 a month or $99.50 a year after a 1-month trial, per Withings. T3 argued Withings+ should come free at the Body Scan's price.
