What we collect, why, and your choices.

The Resting Rate (restingrate.com) is operated by Gales Inc. This policy explains what we collect when you visit the site, how we use it and the choices you have. Questions and requests: info@restingrate.com.

What we collect

Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and clicks on buy buttons. It records the page, the referring page, filtered query parameters, a country and region derived from your request, your browser, operating system and device type, and the time. Vercel tells visits apart with a hash of the incoming request rather than a cookie, and discards it after 24 hours. We see only aggregate reports and cannot identify you from them.

Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web server, it processes technical data such as your IP address and browser to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, under Vercel's privacy policy.

Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and what you send.

We do not ask for accounts, payment details or health information, and we do not collect sensitive personal information.

Cookies

The Resting Rate sets no cookies for readers, and we use no advertising or cross-site tracking tags. The editors' sign-in page uses a short-lived security cookie for staff only.

When you follow a buy link you leave our site. The brand, or the affiliate network that tracks the sale, may set its own cookies on its site to credit the sale. Their privacy policies apply there, and you can block or clear those cookies in your browser.

How we use it

We use analytics to learn which pages people read and which links they use, so we can improve the guide. We use email to reply to you, fix errors and handle requests. We do not use your information for advertising.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the service providers that run the site for us: Vercel for hosting and analytics, and our email providers for mail sent to info@restingrate.com. We may disclose information if the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

How long we keep it

Analytics reports are kept for 12 months, the reporting window of our Vercel plan; Vercel may hold the aggregate data longer under its own policy. The visit hash is discarded after 24 hours. We keep email for as long as we need it to answer you and keep ordinary business records, and we delete it on request unless the law requires us to keep it.

The Sunday Rate

Our newsletter has not launched. Before the first issue we will update this policy to name the newsletter provider and explain how to unsubscribe.

Your California privacy rights

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to:

  • know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and get a copy of it;
  • ask us to delete it;
  • ask us to correct it;
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information;
  • limit the use of sensitive personal information; and
  • not be treated differently for using any of these rights.

We do not sell or share personal information, as the law defines those terms, and we do not use sensitive personal information. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request to opt out. In the past 12 months we have collected the categories described above: identifiers (your email address, if you wrote to us, and IP address, processed by our host), internet activity (pages viewed and links clicked) and approximate location (country and region). We collect them from you and your browser, for the purposes above, and disclose them only to the service providers named here.

To make a request, write to info@restingrate.com. We will confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. We may verify your request by asking you to reply from the email address involved. You can use an authorized agent, and we may ask for proof of the agent's authority. Under California's Shine the Light law, you may also ask whether we disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing; we do not.

Children

The Resting Rate is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has written to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

When we change this policy we update the date on this page. If a change is significant, we will say so at the top of the policy.
