Questions

Does red light help muscle recovery?

The evidence is modest. A 2024 meta-analysis of 34 randomized trials found red and near-infrared light before exercise improved muscle endurance, with no benefit seen in physically active people, and a 2025 meta-analysis rated the evidence on soreness as low certainty. Most trials placed lasers or LED clusters directly on the muscle.

What is the FDA status of these red light devices?

Registered, not cleared. Joovv and Mito Red Light register their panels and the Go under FDA code ILY, a Class II category that is 510(k) exempt, so registration is not a clearance (checked 2026-10-06).

Should I buy a red light panel or a handheld?

A panel covers more of the body per session: the Joovv Solo 3.0 has 150 LEDs on a 36 inch panel and the MitoPRO 1500X has 300 on a 43 inch panel, per their makers. The Joovv Go 2.0 has 12 LEDs, which Joovv rates as small coverage, but weighs 1.32 lb and travels in a case.
